From October 29 to November 4, Collège Boréal encourages students, staff, and community partners to celebrate newcomers’ contributions to the vitality and dynamism of francophone communities as part of National Francophone Immigration Week.Now in its 5th edition, the initiative aims to recognize the vitality of French-language host communities across Canada. This year’s theme, “One language, a thousand accents”, encourages us to celebrate diversity.
On Monday, October 30, at 1:30 p.m., as part of an activity organized in partnership with the Réseau de soutien à l’immigration francophone du Nord de l’Ontario and the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury, Boréal will celebrate the official opening of its French-language settlement services office in Sudbury, located at 19 Frood Road. Services include needs assessment, referrals, information sharing, liaison services, language and professional training, employment services, workshops, and group activities. The City of Greater Sudbury’s Mayor, Brian Bigger, will be in attendance and will read a proclamation. Light multicultural refreshments will be served.
On Thursday, November 2, Greater Sudbury community members are invited to an intercultural evening at the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury. Organized in partnership with Collège Boréal and the Sudbury Downtown Indie Cinema Co-op, the evening includes an intercultural dinner ($8/person; 5:30 p.m.) and a film screening of Né quelque part (Homeland) (free; 7:30 p.m.). In addition, Collège Boréal in Timmins will host the Forum provincial sur la régionalisation de l’immigration francophone on November 8 and 9. The event is organized in partnership with the Francophone Immigration Networks and the Université de Hearst and made possible thanks to the financial support of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The event will be an excellent opportunity for French- language institution representatives from Northern, Eastern, and Central Southwestern Ontario to get together and learn about the various services that contribute to the successful integration of francophone immigrants in host communities across the province.
